Welcome to Term Three. Our new theme is ‘What a Load of Rubbish!’ We look at rubbish with an emphasis on Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Children are encouraged to use the compost bin for fruit peelings and to reduce their lunch packaging. Thanks to Thomas’ apple slicer most children are eating an apple for snack which requires no packaging and cores are put in the compost bin. Thanks Thomas (also Emily who brought her “apple machine’ for a few days) for encouraging us all to eat a healthy snack.
Here are some stories titled “A Day in my Life” by a tin can. The focus of these stories is recycling.
Smash! I got thrown in the bin. “That hurt!” I said as I heard the rubbish truck. I was frightened. It picked me up with its robotic hand. When we were there I wasn’t at the dump. I was at a workshop. I was very scared. I got melted and I turned into a new Coke can. Bella
Brrrr!!!! It is cold in this fridge. Let me out of here. Finally I am out of that fridge. Ow! Who crushed me? Do not put me in the bin. Finally I am a new can. Mitchell.
Help!Help! i’m stuck in this stupid box. Then I heard something. Finally I am free. Oh! Oh! Not the stubby holder! Then he drank me up and he put me in the recycling bin. I went to a store. I think they are fixing me. Then I saw my body and I am a new can. Zane
SMASH! BANG! I ended in a shop and someone bought me. I was scared. We went through the city and I was crushed. CRASH! Then I was transformed into a pencil holder. Meisha
When I was in can city I went to a shop to see my friends on the shelves. I was picked up and put on the shelves too. Suddenly I was picked up again and this time someone bought me. I went to a house and I was put in the fridge. I was drunk and in about two minutes I was put in the recycling bin and taken to the recycling place. I was transported and melted. The next day I woke up. I was a brand new can with a new design. Bethany
This is the butterfly unfolding its wings after it emerged from the chrysalis. For days we have been watching the chrysalis as it hung from a twig of the swan plant. It was so exciting to find the beautiful butterfly drying its wings. How amazing that such a large butterfly came out of a very small chrysalis!
The Life Cycle of a Butterfly by Michael.
The butterfly lays eggs. The egg hatches and out comes a caterpillar. The caterpillar eats the egg shell and the swan plant leaves. The caterpillar hangs upside down. The caterpillar splits its skin and becomes a chrysalis. In ten days out comes the butterfly. It dries its wings and flies away and lays eggs.
Sitting at the table I saw two golden dragons looking at me. Red tablecloths and yellow serviettes were everywhere. The cooks were getting our lunch ready. Delicious smells filled the room.Then…….I got my lunch! I gobbled it up and I didn’t have secpnds. Then we all went outside and through the moon gate to enter the garden. Over the bridge we went. Past Little West (the lake). We had a walk along the garden and went back. I had a great lunch. by Sophie.

This week we are excited about our trip to Toy’s Restaurant for lunch. We have researched some interesting facts about China. The story of the blue willow plate is a traditional Chinese tale and here is Sarah’s retell of the story.
A long time ago lived a wealthy mandarin and his beautiful daughter named Kong-See. One day the mandarin hired a secretary named Chang. Chang and Kong-See were in love. They decided not to tell the mandarin because Chang was poor. Chang and Kong-See had secrets about when they were going to be married. The mandarin found out. He locked Kong-See up. He said she will marry a Ta-Jin. Kong-See and Chang turned into two doves.
Students have designed their own cereal boxes for a cereal of their choice. Tasty new cereals such as Cat Flakes,Elephant Flakes, Fruities, Meisha’s Crunchies, Dino Flakes, Fire Bix and Lightning Bolts were created.
As part of our food theme we read “The Gingerbread Man”. We considered the story from the fox’s point of view. This is Georgia-Rose’s story.
My Day as Fox.
Ring! Ring! Ring! My alarm clock went off. I sprang out of bed. I went to get some food but my cupboards were empty. “Oh No! What can I do ?” So I quickly got dressed and went in to town to a shop. But no money. Oh no! I am unlucky aren’t I? By now I was starving! I really need to find some food soon.I started to walk home and suddenly I saw a gingerbread man.Yum! I gobbled him up. Yum!
